Easiest Weight Loss Diets According to U.S. News Best Diets 2021
Health and fitness is a goal for many people, and there are several possible ways to achieve it and maintain it — primarily through exercise and diet. For instance, many people want to lose weight for health reasons. They may diet and lose some weight, but end up gaining it back after some time, with the most common reason being the feelings of deprivation caused by very restrictive diets. Therefore, people who have trouble maintaining weight loss may discuss with their doctor or nutritionist a diet plan that is easier to follow.
At the beginning of 2021, U.S. News & World Report launched the Best Diets 2021 rank, which delivers facts about 39 different diets, ranking them at various levels. A panel of nationally recognized experts rated each diet in seven categories — nutrition completeness, ability to produce short and long-term weight loss, how easy it is to follow, its safety, how much it helps prevent and manage both heart disease and diabetes, and health risks. The result was nine sets of Best Diets rankings, including the best weight-loss diets and the easiest diets to follow.
The best weight-loss diets ranking combined both short and long-term weight-loss ratings, weighing them equally, while the easiest diets to follow rankings were based on the panelists’ averaged judgments about the ease of initial adjustment, taste appeal fulfillment, and imposition of special requirements. As a result, the flexitarian diet was ranked first in the best weight-loss diets ranking, followed by the WW (Weight Watchers) diet. At the same time, the easiest diets to follow ranking had the Mediterranean diet on top and the WW diet in second place. For that reason, the WW diet can be considered one of the easiest weight-loss diets, according to U.S. News, also scoring the highest for overall weight loss and fast weight loss.
The WW diet is focused on healthy living and well-being, while it is also used for weight loss. It is a program where members have access to a SmartPoints system that gives a point value to foods and beverages based on their nutrition and gives members the possibility to shape their own diet. The WW diet is considered easy to follow because no foods are off-limits, and daily points allow for three meals a day, in addition to two snacks. The program also emphasizes foods that keep the dieter satisfied.
Third place in the easiest diets to follow ranking, the flexitarian diet also leads the best weight-loss diets ranking, as mentioned. A diet that is not about avoiding specific foods, the flexitarian diet focuses on fruits, whole grains, vegetables, and plant-based proteins. Registered dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner coined the term flexitarian in her book “The Flexitarian Diet: The Mostly Vegetarian Way to Lose Weight, Be Healthier, Prevent Disease and Add Years to Your Life,” published in 2009. A marrying of the words “flexible” and “vegetarian,” the flexitarian diet suggests that you can be a vegetarian most of the time. However, there is no need to eliminate meat.
The flexitarian diet includes five food groups — fruits and vegetables, non-meat proteins, dairy, whole grains, and sugar and spices. According to U.S. News, it follows a three-four-five regimen, where breakfast is around 300 calories, lunch 400, and dinner 500, with two snacks of 150 calories each. Flexitarians enjoy the same benefits of plant-based eating as vegetarians, and research has shown that vegetarians tend to weigh less than meat-eating people, eat fewer calories, and have a lower body mass index. The flexitarian diet also encourages at least 30 minutes of moderate exercise five days a week.
